Experience Sri Lanka’s breathtaking diversity — from the golden sands of Negombo and Colombo to the mist-covered tea hills of Nuwara Eliya and the tranquil southern coast. Cycle through ancient UNESCO heritage cities, spice gardens, tea plantations, and local villages as you immerse yourself in the island’s rich culture and warm hospitality.
Each day combines scenic cycling (40–50 km average) with sightseeing, authentic food stops, and comfortable hotel stays on Half-Board basis.

Itinerary


Day 01 – Arrival / Negombo (Approx. 30 mins drive | 20 km)
  • Warm welcome at Bandaranaike International Airport by your chauffeur guide

  • Transfer to Negombo and check-in at the hotel

  • Relax and enjoy the beach or explore Negombo Fishing Village by Tuk Tuk

  • Optional visits: Fish Market, Dutch Fort, Angurukaramulla Temple, St. Mary’s Church

  • 🏨 Overnight stay in Negombo (Half Board basis)


Day 02 – Negombo → Dambulla / Sigiriya (Approx. 4 hrs drive | Cycle 40–50 km)
  • Breakfast at hotel and begin your first cycling stage toward the Cultural Triangle.

  • Scenic countryside ride passing local villages and coconut plantations.

  • En-route lunch at a local restaurant (Payment Direct).

  • Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 2,000 m² of murals and over 150 Buddha statues.

  • Overnight stay in Dambulla / Sigiriya – Hotel on HB basis.


Day 03 – Sigiriya & Polonnaruwa (Approx. Cycle 40–50 km)
  • Early-morning climb to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the 5th-century “Lion Rock”.

  • Lunch at a local restaurant (Payment Direct).

  • Afternoon cycling tour through the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa, another UNESCO gem known for its well-preserved temples and royal ruins.

  • Overnight stay in Sigiriya / Dambulla – Hotel on HB basis.


Day 04 – Dambulla → Kandy via Matale (Approx. 2.5 hrs drive | Cycle 40–50 km)
  • Breakfast at hotel and begin your ride toward the hill capital.

  • En-route visit a Spice Garden in Matale to learn about Sri Lanka’s aromatic exports and Ayurvedic uses.

  • Lunch at local restaurant (Payment Direct).

  • Continue cycling through lush mountain roads to Kandy.

  • Overnight stay in Kandy – Hotel on HB basis.


Day 05 – Explore Kandy (Approx. Cycle 40–50 km)
  • Breakfast at hotel.

  • Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of Buddhism’s most revered shrines.

  • Explore Kandy city by bicycle — Upper Lake Drive, Bahirawakanda Temple & local markets.

  • Visit the Royal Botanic Gardens of Peradeniya and enjoy the Kandy Cultural Dance Show in the evening.

  • Overnight stay in Kandy – Hotel on HB basis.


Day 06 – Kandy → Nuwara Eliya (Approx. 3.5 hrs drive | Cycle 40–50 km)
  • Breakfast at hotel and start your scenic ascent to Nuwara Eliya.

  • En-route stop at Ramboda Falls, one of Sri Lanka’s tallest waterfalls.

  • Visit a Tea Plantation and Factory to watch the tea-making process and enjoy a cup of fresh Ceylon Tea.

  • Evening sightseeing in Nuwara Eliya — Gregory Lake, Victoria Park, and colonial landmarks.

  • Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya – Hotel on HB basis.


Day 07 – Nuwara Eliya → Horton Plains (Approx. Cycle 40–50 km)
  • Early departure with packed breakfast for Horton Plains National Park.

  • Trek to the spectacular World’s End viewpoint and explore the park’s unique highland ecosystems.

  • Spot sambar deer, highland birds, and endemic wildlife.

  • Return to Nuwara Eliya for an evening at leisure.

  • Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya – Hotel on HB basis.


Day 08 – Nuwara Eliya → Bentota / Beruwala via Kitulgala (Approx. 5.5 hrs | Cycle 40–50 km)
  • Breakfast at hotel and descend by bike through tea country to the lowlands.

  • En-route visit St. Clair’s & Devon Waterfalls.

  • Optional: White-Water Rafting in the Kelani River at Kitulgala (Grade 2–3 rapids).

  • Continue to Bentota / Beruwala and check-in to beachside hotel.

  • Overnight stay in Bentota / Beruwala – Hotel on HB basis.


Day 09 – Bentota Cycling & Beach Experience (Approx. Cycle 40–50 km)
  • Breakfast at hotel.

  • Village cycling tour through rural Bentota — paddy fields, temples, and riverbanks.

  • Afternoon Madu Ganga River Safari among mangroves and islands.

  • Visit Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda and learn about sea turtle conservation.

  • Overnight stay in Bentota / Beruwala – Hotel on HB basis.


Day 10 – Bentota → Negombo / Airport (Approx. 1.5 hrs drive)
  • Breakfast at hotel and free leisure time until departure.

  • Transfer to Colombo Airport or Negombo for your onward flight.

Conditions


  • 🚴‍♂️ Participation:
    All participants should be in good physical health and capable of moderate cycling activity (40–70 km per day). Riders participate at their own risk and should follow the guide’s safety instructions at all times.

  • 🚲 Bicycles & Equipment:
    Bicycles, helmets, and basic repair tools are provided by Sign of Lanka. Participants are responsible for using the equipment with care. Any loss or damage caused by negligence will be charged at cost.

  • 🚐 Support Vehicle:
    A back-up vehicle will accompany the group for mechanical support, first aid, and transport assistance. In case of fatigue or technical issues, guests may travel in the vehicle.

  • 🛠️ Mechanical Assistance:
    Minor repairs (punctures, chain adjustments, etc.) will be handled by the support crew. Major breakdowns will be managed through bike replacement or mechanical backup when possible.

  • 🌦️ Weather & Route Changes:
    Sign of Lanka reserves the right to alter routes or schedules due to weather conditions, road closures, or safety concerns. Alternate arrangements of equal value will be provided when necessary.

  • 🩺 Insurance:
    Basic insurance coverage is included. However, participants are strongly advised to obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance covering cycling activities, accidents, and personal belongings.

  • 🕓 Timings & Transfers:
    Cycling distances and durations may vary based on fitness levels, weather, and traffic. Transfers between destinations are arranged in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle.

  • 💰 Payments & Cancellations:
    Bookings are confirmed upon receipt of the advance payment. Cancellation charges apply as per Sign of Lanka’s policy and depend on the number of days prior to departure.

  • 📋 Liability:
    While every care is taken to ensure safety, Sign of Lanka will not be held liable for personal injury, loss, or damage to property during the tour, except where caused by proven negligence.

  • 🙏 Code of Conduct:
    Participants are expected to respect local customs, wildlife, and the environment. Littering or disruptive behavior is strictly prohibited.

Know before you go


  • 🧥 Fitness Level:
    A moderate level of fitness is recommended. Daily rides range from 40–70 km with a mix of flat and hill-country terrain.

  • 🚴‍♂️ Cycling Gear:
    High-quality bicycles, helmets, and repair tools will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own helmet, padded shorts, gloves, or pedals if preferred.

  • 👕 What to Wear:
    Comfortable, breathable clothing suitable for cycling. A light rain jacket, sun hat, and sunscreen are recommended.

  • 💧 Hydration & Snacks:
    Each rider will receive bottled mineral water daily. Additional energy snacks and electrolyte drinks are available upon request or can be purchased locally.

  • 🧳 Luggage & Support:
    A support vehicle will follow throughout the cycling route to carry luggage, spare bikes, first-aid supplies, and provide assistance when needed.

  • ☀️ Weather:
    Sri Lanka enjoys warm tropical weather year-round. The best cycling conditions are from November to April in the west and south, and May to September in the hill country and east.

  • 🩺 Health & Safety:
    A first-aid kit is available in the support vehicle. Please inform your guide of any medical conditions or dietary needs in advance.

  • 🪙 Payments & Tips:
    Meals, personal expenses, and tips for guides or drivers are not included in the tour price. Gratuities are at your discretion.

  • 🧘‍♂️ Respect Local Culture:
    Dress modestly when visiting temples and religious sites. Remove shoes and hats before entering sacred areas.

  • 📸 Photography:
    Sri Lanka is a photographer’s paradise! Always ask permission before taking photos of local people or inside temples.
